Note: This is the first in a series of pages on aspects of Irish philately, utilizing holdings in the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, University Libraries of Notre Dame. It will be followed, in 1999-2000, by pages treating the 1) the forerunners and 2) essays relating to the first permanent issue.
Most of the material illustrated herein derives from the Ireland collection donated to the University Libraries in 1991 by Dr. Charles Wolf of Walled Lake, Michigan. Some items derive from the extensive worldwide collection assembled by the late William J. Waldron Jr. of Bricktown NJ, donated to the University Libraries by Mrs. Ann Waldron in 1998.

• Set 1T (T1-T8, unused): 1922 (17 February) "Rialtas" 5-line overprint in black (Dollard)
  • T1-V9, used: 1/2d overprint variety ("Scaladac" for "Sealadac").
  • T1 on piece with Great Britain 161, Duleek circular date stamp, 2 March 1922.
  • Forged Dollard-style overprint on Great Britain 172, 1s bistre brown, used.
  
  
• Set 2T (T9-T11, unused): 1922 (1 April) "Rialtas" 5-line overprint in red (Dollard)
  
  
• Set 3T (T12-T14, unused): 1922 (17 February) "Rialtas" 4-line overprint in black (Dollard)
  • T13-I, unused lower right corner margin copy: 5s color variety (rose-carmine)
  
  
• Set 4T (T15-T19, unused): 1922 (17 February) "Rialtas" 5-line overprint in black (Thom)
  • T17b, unused: 2d (Die II), overprint error (overprint inverted)

  • T53a, unused: 4d, base stamp error (Break over "FOUR").
  • T55d and T57c, unused: 6d and 10d, overprint error ("Sacrstát" for "Saorstát").
  
  
• Set 10T (T62-T65, joined pairs, vertical and horizontal, unused; T63 used): 1923 (March 7) "Saorstát" 3-line overprint in dull or shiny blue-black (Harrison coils).
  • T63a with T63, horizontal pair, unused: 1d overprint error (long "1" in "1922").
