T51 (48) with T51a (48a) 2 1/2d blue Accent missing [MID] [LAR] |
Notes: Among the most intriguing of all the overprint errors are the so-called accent errors of Thom's set 9T. On one of the plates used for most of the low values, the twelfth overprint subject of the fifteenth row lacked the accent over the second "a" in "Saorstát". The error occurs on the 1/2d, 1d, 3d, 4d, 9d, and 1s values, as well as on the 2 1/2d shown here. The block of four includes three examples of the typical 2 1/2d (T51, with sheet locations of row 15, stamp 11, and row 16, stamps 11 and 12), together with the "accent missing" error. The location of the error (row 15, stamp 12) placed it on the right side of the sheet; this particular block would be more desireable had it retained the side margin adjoining the two right hand stamps.
