1863
April 16th fine warm day. like summer. returned the muster rolls, got my likeness taken and started a letter to Mary. there was a man in Co H. buried this after noon. I got no mail got the Furloughs for Bass [i.e., Private Henry Bass] Snell and Dobbins [i.e., Private Samuel B. Dobbins]. gone to get their pay to night, I got a sore throat. dont feel very well.
" 17th fine warm day. moved our tents first thing this morning. got cleaned up nice before noon. had drill this afternoon got a letter from Emma boys got started of home. no news. all quiet. Some women here from Wisconsin.

April 18 had quite a rain. no drill to day. got a letter from Mary. all well, finished a letter to Mary, and sent my likeness in it. the band serenaded the Colonel this evening no news, all quiet. Still cloudy and looks like rain. 94th getting their pay. all well.

" 19th fine day things quite still in camp, three companys got their pay to day. no meeting of any kind. no dress parade. no news, all quiet, wrote a letter to Father, looks more like Sunday then usual. Several women in camp all well.
