Came to Bridgewater with the view of meeting my Regt. which was disbanded, was to start for Pendleton County to join the Brigade; but few of the Regt. came. recived late in the evng an order from Genl. Early to report to Genl. Rosser at Mt. Crawfd [sp. Mt. Crawford]. Capt. Richardson [i.e., Capt. Marcus F. Richardson, Co. D, 23rd Virginia Cavalry] went with fifteen or twenty men. Staid all night at Mr Davis' enemy advanced to Staunton.
