Camp A. Lincoln. Portland.
Oct. 1. 1862.
My dear Mother
Although I wrote so long a letter yesterday, which you have probably not yet received, I did not make my wants all known. I wanted Delora [i.e., Delora Jackson] to knit me either a pair of gloves or a pair of mitte[ns] with a forefinger.
Dear Mother do not worry about me for I was never better. I cannot write more for my time is up.
Good bye. Your aff son,
John
