Dear Madam
I got your letter and I ans through but failed to get it off the first day, I am assured by Judge Swan that you may rest easy about Monroe, He Says their can be no doubt about his releaseas soon as the President can have time to investigate his case, but I must ask you to exercise as much patience as the circumstances of the case can allow I appreciate your anxiety and sympathise deeply in your distress and all I can do to relieve you and him and I can assure you and your friends that You have a true and efficient friend in Judge SwanNo man has done more to mitigate the distress of this war than Judge Swan, and none possess a heart of more noble impulses than him He is not only sobut he is active and efficnt possessing a larger share of the confidence of the Powers that be than any man in E Tennessee and is

disposed to do all he can to mitigate the distress and cover up the wrongs or indiscretions of partisans who may have gone beyond the limits of or supposed to have gonebeyond the limits of that Power With many wishes for the speedy return of your husband to the bosom of his friends I will ask you to tender my regards to the family and [illeg] to serve them in any thing my feeble hands or influence can do
