Camp near Brandy October 29 1863

Dear Mother

     I arrived Safe in camp yesterday no news of any importance. Our army is this Side of the Rappahannock. part of Ewells Corps is over the Rappahannock taking up the railroad. Its all So about Jimmy [i.e., Pvt. James O. Peed, the author's brother]. Mr Coakley & Several others heard Major waller [i.e., Maj. Thomas C. Waller, 9th Virginia Cavalry] say that he went to the House where Jimmy staid. the farmer Said he could walk very well before he left. he Staid at the house two weeks. Lieut King [i.e., Lt. William F. King, Co. I, 9th Virginia Cavalry] is in King Geo. I suppose you have seen him before this. Phil. Peed has been appointed Leutenant of Co. I. the men are all very well satisfied we had a very fine time coming up. Lewis Jones come up with us he is in the fifteenth. I suppose you have heard before this time that Jim Hudson [i.e., Pvt. James S. Hudson, Co. I, 9th Virginia Cavalry] was wounded in the arm & sent to Richmond also. Joe. Spilman [i.e., Pvt. Joseph Spillman, Co. I, 9th Virginia Cavalry] in the finger See Leut King & get my Blanket from him I send one by Mr white [i.e., Pvt. Thomas L. White, Co. C, 9th Virginia Infantry]. I must Close Mr. white will give you all the news. you must excuse bad writing read this if you can Good Bye
