In The Field Aug. 11th/64
Dear Father

How are you and the rest of the folks at home I hope well for I cannot hear from there I have got 2 letters from home since The last one was mailed July 12 and I got it the 17 that is just about the way I get them I am out of Stamps money tobacco and writing materal and I can get them cheeper by mail from home than any other way I hope you will try and write as often as you can so that I can get one once in a while for I am lonesome without hearing from home The boys that were wounded are doing very well as far as I know The bullets come over here thick several have gone throug their tents it is not a very safe place not so much so as I would like to be in We have been haveing some rain for a few days past which makes it rather bad geting around for mud

and it looks as though it might rain more before long The report is that we have got some reinforcements from some where if it is so I am glad of it for we need them surely at present for they have the inside track of us I wish you would send me a pound of tobacco by mail there was a fellow got a pound yesterday and it only cost 8 cts ther is an awful diference some have had to pay an awful rate of postage you will have to keep a sharp look out for them or they will stick it to you I must close good by write soon
