Dear Father

I have just come off from inspection and have nothing else to do but write I am well as usual and so are the rest of Co H It is quite warm here in the daytime but cold nights Five companys of the 65" Ill start for home to day I wish I was one of the lucky ones I expect I shall be soon and how glad we shall be then I do not have an idea we shall be in many engagements from now I think our corps is in the reserve unless they want us on the flank

Page 2      Images (pages 2 & 3): 150 DPI100 DPI72 DPI

We are bully on the flank for we have always been there and it is a very particular position See how they pitched into the 15" 16" 17" corps on the 22th of July when McPherson was killed Our Div has always been on the extreme right or left of the line We have always had good luck and I had rather be there than any where else for it is not so hard a time there There is more forage and more marching We have a report here that Lee has left Richmond and that Grant took one camp of the rebs in out of the wet if such is the case they are gone up

Page 3      Images (pages 2 & 3): 150 DPI100 DPI72 DPI

And I think they are any way but I may be mistake for I often am in that way But enough of this Are you going to Amiles this summer I wish I could be ther to help you in doing it What would you do if you was in my place when I get home I do not know what to go at I would like a position on the R.R. but I suppose you would not like to have me there I think I could do full as well there as any where Did you get the pay on that not against C. Lane I have not got that tobacco that you sent while I was in Tenn

I think some fellow took it that thought he kneeded it more than your humble servent
I will close good by write soon
