Camp in the field
Near Marietta

Dear Father & Mother

We are here in in the field as buisy as bees Still driveing the enemy still they are rather obistinate however some times We drove them 3 miles yesterday we are on the extreme right of the line we flank them occasionly Our Co was support to the skermishers yesterday we took a few prisoners they say that there is 3 brigades of cavilry in front of us Where ever we stop we throw up works and stay a day or so then on we go after them The boys are all well but I am not very well but I guess I shall come out all right after a while I hope So at least I saw a dead rebel yesterday on the skermish line

There is some talk of our Corps going to the rear or back to Knoxville I hope we will I saw Gen Hooker [i.e., General Joseph Hooker] or fighting Jo We lay within range of the enemy guns all of the time the bullets whiz over our heads occasionly and it is every day just so I cannot think of any thing of any importence to write only I wish you would just write me a line for I have not recd a line from you or any one else since I left
