Savanna Tenn Aprile 3rd 1862
Dear Minerva
I again have an opertunity of sending a letter to you direct and I avail myself of it
The night after writing my last I was taken with a very severe diahrie which completely prostrated me It was attended with a slight fever I had all the assistance that could be given in Camp I am now free from fever and measurably from the diahrie and can walk about and I think I could stay in camp and be well in a few days But I have made arangements to go this Evening to a private house to stay 2 or 3 days believing I need a little relaxation from business as much or more than nursing Mr Harris of our Town who is one of my sergeants tells me it is a first rate place and that they have cows and you know when I can get milk I am all right
There is a great deal of sickness in the camp for which I cant account we ocupy a high point of land and the country looks as if it ought to be healthy I think it Entirely atributable to the change of water
I can tell you but little more about the time of a general Engagement at Corinth than I gave you when I wrote before But all believe it not fare distant The general impression is that our Reg will be kept here as Post force until after the battle but those of our Reg who are well would like the prospect of taking part in the fight better than staying here I am near the bottom of my sheet and I will make a short letter of this
Remember me to all friends & relations
George Thomas
