Dear Minerva

I have had a pleasant trip to this place where I arived night before last. I should have started for Holly Springs yesterday morning if there had been no difficulty in the way But unfortunately there is It has been reported for some days that Jackson Tenn was threatened There had been no demonstration made apon the road however until day before yesterday That day a Locomotive was fired into Yesterday they would allow no person to go out on the road but started a heavy freight train It got out some 25 or 30 miles and could go no farther and came back to this place this morning There are all sorts of rumers in this place It is reported that Holly Springs is taken with large quantities of Commissary stores also that Bolivar is taken and that much of the road between here and Jackson has been torn up Some Even think that this place will be attacked But I am satisfied that a great deal of

it is Exageration That communication has been cut off there Can be no doubt But it cannot be of long duration All of Gen Grants supplies have to go by this road and he will be compelled to open it at once or as soon as it can be done Even if he has to fall back. I am waiting here very impatiently If there had been no obstruction I should have been to my Reg before this time How long I will have to wait I cannot tell
I am getting alongs as well as I could Expect I feel quite comfortable and I am trying to be very careful no more at present

Remember me to all
Your affectionate Husband
George Thomas
