Date: [nd]
Place: [Swansea, Massachusetts]

Abstract: This document, and the ones preceding and following (MSN/COL 2718-44 and MSN/COL 2718-46), are undated survey records detailing the laying out of lots and roads during Swansea's formative years, in the early 1670s. The present document, copied from the town record book by clerk Joseph Mason, is a survey for highways at Metapoiset, made by order of James Brown, John Allen, and Nicholas Tanner, Swansea's three selectmen in 1670-71. Mason writes that the roads were laid out "in the 12 mounth 1671" (i. e., in February 1670/1). The copy would appear to date from the first decade of the eighteenth century.
