What follows is a descriptive list of wrestling-related manuscript groups held in the Joyce Sports Research Collection, Department of Special Collections, Hesburgh Libraries of Notre Dame. In addition to manuscript texts, the list includes other non-published formats with some claim to uniqueness, like scrapbooks and photographs. Some of the descriptions that follow are linked to finding aids, to provide readers with fuller information on particular collections.
JACK PFEFER WRESTLING COLLECTION (PFE). ca. 1920-ca.1970. 212 boxes; 5 map case drawers. The Pfefer Collection comprises the business papers and promotional materials of professional wrestling manager and booking agent Jacob "Jack" Pfefer (1894-1974), one of the sport's most colorful and influential figures in the second quarter of the 20th century. It includes manuscript material, printed matter, and photographs, most notably: wrestling periodicals (23 boxes); wrestling programs (23 boxes); photographic prints, mostly publicity portraits (50 boxes); scrapbooks of clippings (40 boxes); wrestler files (29 boxes); business and financial records (53 boxes); correspondence, mostly incoming (45 boxes); and posters and broadsides.
