take anything there was no officer present I could not tell what he was serching for the was very kind he was not very particular he said he did not know what it was for the officer of the day told him to make the search Oct the 31st General Enspection among the yanks & prisoners Nov the 1st 1864 Gov. Island [i.e., Governors Island] Nov the 8th The Day of the Election it passed off better than I antisipated the Feds say it was the calmest election they Ever saw I thought they would be some big fighting done but all quiet to day
