April the 8th 1865
Macon at 3 o'clk P.M. I went to the Commander of the Post and got my fourlough Extended for 30 days or until Exchanged then I get transpirtation to atlanta and put up for the night on the 9th 8 1/2 oclk A.M. we taken the cars at Macon Ga and Run to Barnvill [i.e., Barnesville, Georgia] we there at 12.oclk and then we started out in the Country hunting a home for a few days while on furlough we walked 3 miles & stoped with a Gentleman by the name of owen the first night the next morning the 10 we went back to town

but could learn nothing to my Interest & Returned back to Mr Owen & stoped for the night April the 11th [illeg] Expences and no where to go on the 12th & 13th better The 14th went to Barnville Saturday April 15th all quiet on the Tuesday the 18th great Excitement in Barnsville The yankees said to be in 16 miles of said place The 19th not so much Excitement as the Day previous to this in the Eavening more Excitement about the yanks said they was coming closter [illeg] to Barnville they got to Barnsville night and Burned the mill and perhaps other Building
