1863

Feb 14th  fine summer day. I wrote a letter to Mary, had no mail all quiet. talk of getting two months more pay! St Vallentines received $14 l/2 for Miss Bintliff.

Sunday

 "  15th  had quite a frost last night, but it is a lovely day like summer. had Co inspection this morning. had a short sermond, and a prayer meeting to night. I went over in town for the first time orders to march in the morning, started again for heaven.

 "  16th  Started at 7 1/2 oclock on the march, and got to camp on Blue river at 1 oclock. Started to rain at about 12 oclock. I am on guard got to camp at 1 1/2 oclock. got some provisions. train got in no mail, all well.

1863

Feb 17th  Struck tents at 6 oclock and marched at 7 oclock cloudy dull morning. got to camp at 4 oclock, roads very muddy. not relieved till we came in camp this evening crossed Blue River 17 times.

15 miles

Finley Creek

 "  18th cloudy and misting. our teams did not get in till late and Forces did get in a tall. Started at 8 l/2 oclock had no tents last night. Staid with the Chaplain all night. got to camp at 4 l/2 oclock. cough very bad. camped on Finley creek.

18 miles

 "  19th  cold and windy, not agoing to move. Went on guard. our tents not in yet. fine evening all quiet, had a letter from Mary. camped on Finley Creek in a timber all well
