1863

Feb 20th  fine day. got our tents and fixed up. done nothing all day. got no mail. all quiet. Chaplain resigned. our Capt [i.e., Captain William Harlocker] trying to get to go home. B. Peasley [i.e., Private Bernhard Peasley] got to the Regt.

 "  21st  wet stormy day. roads almost impossible. wrote a letter to Mary, reed a letter from father all well boys nearly all drunk borrowed $100, of Captin Whitman [i.e., Captain Nelson Whitman] for Capt Harlocker. Settled up with the mess in full.

Sunday

 "  22nd  fine day. all well and quiet. wrote a letter to father, got a letter from J. Brown and one from bothe folk. no news no meeting. had company all day [?], no news from the war all quiet, very muddy under foot.

1863

Feb 23rd  cool day. I had to go on guard making out the muster Roll commensed to storm a little in the evening. heared six cannon shots fired toward Springfield. no mail. all quiet commensed drilling Co. again.

 "  24th  butiful day. mud drying fast. I have been sick all day. commensed Officers drill. got my Sword. no mail. all quiet. working some at the Muster Rolls. no news.

 "  25th  bad wet day rained all day no mail. all quiet. not been very well. finished on muster Rolls. Sgt. Buttler and the Sergeant Major reported for card playing. no news. feel better this evening. very muddy.
