Pleasent Regt on Fatigue Mail arrives Receive one Letter Reported capture of 200 3rd Iowa Cavelry One Division of Burnsides men gone on a scout, to look after Johnson [i.e., General Joseph E. Johnston]

Very Warm, On Picket today Detailed for 48 Hours Company B Held in reserve to day Plenty of Blackberies Post one gard through the night Saw the shells burst over Vicksburg

Very warm, Bregade Inspection & Inspection of Camp, Grand retreat from Dress Parade caused by a rain storm, great confusion of Officers, for fear they would get their uniforms wet very heavy canonading at Vicksburg
