that we had left us in the Valley: had my mare shod all around by Jno. Boseman Bargelt also here.

March 12

Staid all night at Huddels. Came to Town at 9 o'clk this morning. Sunday and quite a dull day. News with regard to Sherman's defeat still in circulation, and assuming a reliable tone.

March 13

Went to Huddels after my horse, paid Mrs Davis $100, started from

home about 10 o'clk. Got to New Market about 5.

March 14

Staid all night at Thornton Thomas' 3 miles west of New Mart. Remained in New Mart all day. Capt. Richardson got there about 4 o'clk with 24 mounted men and three dismounted men.

March 15

Staid all night at N Market alarm at 12 o'ck, at night, no truth in it, left there at 9 o'ck A M, staid with [illeg] all night. rained hard all day
