and 6 from Woodstock. Major Calmes with whole Regt came up this eve went into Woodstock with Jno Albert [i.e., Pvt. John W. Albert, Co. D, 23rd Virginia Cavalry]. Staid all night: found wife better farring well Dick at home. Puddy really glad to see me I think, talks much of going to Parkersburg. Capt. Alexander of Torbetts [i.e., U. S. Brig. Gen. Alfred T. A. Torbert's] Staff promised her a pass, do not wish her to go. Campaign just opening. if any thing should happen [illeg] do not know what would do without her, but yet
