Capt. Hunter [i.e. Capt. George W. Hunter, Co. G, 23rd Virginia Cavalry]. Staid all night at Mrs McPhals.
March 30
Left Mt Solan at 7 o'ck. Marched 18 miles. raining like the devil. Mud very deep. no difficulty in getting forage. Encamped on the farm of George Crisman 8 miles from Harrisonburg. moving down the extreme back road
March 31st
Still cloudy, but no rain. Moved at 8 o'clk, windy and disagreeable

very muddy and deep. traveled 23 miles. Encamped at the "Flat rock Church" in Shenandoah. 6 miles from New Market west. Richardson, Crebs [i.e., Pvt. John H. Crebbs, Co. D, 23rd Virginia Cavalry] and I staid all night at Michael Mires' [sp. Myers], one mile from Forestville.
April 1st
Left "Flat Rock Church" at 8' o'clk. got to Jackson's Shool House in Shenandoh Co. on Stoney Creek 5 miles from Edenburg 2 from Columbia furnace
