Dear Father & Mother

How do you do I am well and so are the rest of the boys I am now a resident of Va you will see but how long I shall be is more than I can tell It is quite cold weather and has been ever since we come here The river is froze up so that the transports cannot come up I do not care either if it stays so for the next 7 months

Although it is the opinion of the citizens of this place that there will not be any more fighting or not much We are here in the Barracks doing nothing only eat our meals and we have 3 per day I do not hear from you the last I heard was written on the first of Jan wishing me a happy New Year I suppose there was quite a long time you did not hear from me but it was because we could not send it out I get $5.00 by the way of Col Hayes he gave it to Adjutant Wait of our Regt

I was very glad of it for we have had a very good chance of spending it for luxuries for a short time and when such an oportunity presents itself money has to suffer especially in a soldiers hands I suppose Wm Grove is at home no doubt he took a French at Columbus There is some talk of our getting payed off here and if we do I am going to get me some boots and a few other things What is your opinion of this please let me know
I will close good by write soon

H E Randall
