Jan the 30 the 1862

Dear Husband

     I Received your letter yestarday sent by Dr Slaughter [i.e., Surgeon Robert C. Slaughter, 53rd Indiana Infantry] I was glad to hear you had left Holies Springs & had a comfortable situation once more we had quite a row at town on wednesday night
     Call Jones was getting a litle to fast so our cavalry let him down a link or so so they placed a guard a round the office walked in up set the type hammered it all to pieces & destroyed every thing they could I have not seen the piece But they say he wants a Law put in force that no soldier can draw his wages & that there shall not be an other man permited to enter the service
They seem to be making preperations for a fight grass township sent for a lot of guns & 2 thousand Rounds of catridge George has just came from town & they think there will be a terable fuss

I have Ben trying to get some lumber this week to finish up the House George hauled enough from Eureka to finish the fence & the uper Room I will have to send to Evansville for the Ballance I will go to town to morrow to see if I can make any arrangements to send for it I sold 30 Bushels of wheat at one Dollar per Bush to get money to pay for it he wants to finish the work up as soon as possible
I have Rented the field where Fred lived to sam tenant
     John Thomas seems to be in else a bad fix a bout a horse to work next summer as he is not able to pay for one now are you willing for him to have one of the colts to work if he does not get one
as they are rather hard hands on horses I did not know whether you would like for me to go or not George drove fillis to town in the wagon but he cut up considerable Mr Mason is gone to see Kirk Hill has his discharge But Richardson has one also

we all went to creeds last Saturday & came home Sunday eavning I think I will learn to be a very good driver yet than woodruff e died last week old Mrs Nany died a few days ago
The Relations are in very good health our family are all well & fast a sleep I hope you haveing a good sleep By this time I want to know if you found your Bed or did it go with the clothes
Mrs Veach leaves for Memphis tomorrow eavening I must close for the present
