La Grange Tenn Nov 16th 1862
Dear Minerva
Your letter of the 9th inst has just been recd I was glad to hear from you all But sorry to learn that you still had the chills among you I hope you will be careful. Keep from exposure and not tax your self two much with labor and I think you will get well I was glad to learn you still kept the children at school their book This I want if possible continued
I should have been glad to have seen Mr Puckett that he and I might have settled Our business. You say he said that all was settled when when the last credit was Entered on the note and that the book account is all settled I cannot nor need I speak from memory His statement I believe to be correct Then if there is no book account that dates after the last credit credit on the note there will be nothing against him. But if there are charges dated after the date of the last Credit on the note as a matter of course that will stand against him I think this is the case but I may be mistaken I made it a practice to square up the account at Every settlement with a writen Explination of how the setelment was made and if I did not do it in this instance it was neglected This however is Easily determined by the dates If they choose to let the corn go at the market

price take it if it is $1.00 per bushel But let the market price govern you No odds what that may be
I very much regret that we have not yet been paid off for I know you will be needing money. But when you have to have money sell a small quantity of wheat to answer your present needs When I am paid and can send it to you I will send enough to answer your purpose
Let me know whether Mr Balsley took the filly to winter or not
I have been unwell for two or thee days but am now improving again When I got to this place I felt so well that I nocked around two much and over done my self and took some cold But I shall be more cautious in future. I am now sorry I did not stay at home longer while I was there. My did not Expect me back so soon and would have kept me so ressorted as to have kept me safe. Col Gresham wants me to go home now if there can be anything plausible stated as my business until I get stout But I doant think I shall think of it at least for the present
There does not seem to be any probability of any battle anyways soon The rebels have evacuated Holly Springs and I think it will be some time before we are prepared to advance beyond that point no more tonight. Write often. Let me hear how the work is going on
Remember me to all
Your affectionate Husband George Thomas
