Extract from a letter of Lieut R. S. Edwards to his sister Mrs Rogers Fort Pulaski June 18th/62
"You fear that I don't realize as I should, the dangers I have escaped. You must recollect it is my duty to meet any danger that may arise, coolly & unconcernedly, but I trust I am not the less thankful for health, & every other blessing I have enjoyed as well as for my escape from all danger.
Afternoon We were all greatly shocked & startled this p. m. by the sudden death of Colonel Perry he died in an apopleptic fit. Such a death is much more sad & startling than one in battle, when we are nerved & braced for whatever may come."
