1863

Jan 12th  Stood picket all night. Started of again at 9 1/2 oclock and got to Carlton at 12 1/2 oclock found no enemy yet

7 miles

 "  13th  rained all day and night all quiet resting

 "  14th  raining and snowing all day nothing going on

 "  15th  about 4 inches of snow on the ground and still snowing stood guard round camp

 "  16th  Struck tents ready to start at 9 oclock ground frose and [?] did not start pished tents again at 10 oclock and did not start. waiting for the provision train to get in. very cold all day did not move orders came to night to move at 6 oclock in the morning

1863

Jan 17th  came through a pine grove did not start till 12 oclock the train got in last night we have to wait to distribute rations. all quiet got to a place about 12 miles north of Carrollton at 4 1/2 oclock were we camped for the night

Sunday

18th  camped at a saw mill last night. Started on the march again at 9 oclock frose quite hard, Sunday no respect paid to it here. we got to a place were we camped at 6 oclock P.M. travailed over the mountain all the way. camped at a saw mill

Forsythe

19th  Snowing and sleeting waiting for the brigade teams to come up started at 8 1/2 oclock and got to Forsythe at 2 1/2 oclock snowed and sleeted all the way

20th  Started to write a letter and had to go on guard building a bridge across the White River to get across
