Mar 5th cold windy boisterous day. I came of duty at eight oclock got a letter from Emma. all well. no news, cleaned up the camp, wrote a letter to Mary, all quiet.
" 6th rainy wet day, nothing doing, our forage trains drove in by rebels. there a scout gone out this evening. I wrote a letter to Emma. no mail all quiet in camp.
" 7th Cloudy and cool. rained nearly all night last night, no mail, four of our boys not returned from foraging yesterday all quiet in camp. drawing clothing, ground soft and muddy, misting this evening had dress parade. our boys got back from foraging safe.

Sunday
Mar 8th cold and cloudy with a heavy wind, wild geese and ducks going north, had a sermond this afternoon. no mail, all quiet in camp wrote a letter to Mary cold this evening and windy.
" 9th fine nice day. I am in command to day had to drill the company and went out on dress parade for the first time. no mail. all quiet. made out the papers for E. Butler discharge got two pair of socks for myself. put on my sholder straps.
" 10th fine nice day. all quiet I got a letter from Mary. Lt Butler trial going of Sent a letter to Mrs Bintliff. done nothing all day. got a pair of pants charged to me out on dress parade to night.
