1863 Camp no Rails
Mar 30th Stoped at 1 oclock 15 minutes and rested on the ridge. getting rather warm country rough and covered with shrub timber. got to camp at 2 1/2 oclock camped in a field above the road, about 5 miles south of Salem. not allowed to burn any rails. teams got in at six oclock. all well

31st ReviIle 5 struck tents 6 marched 7 oclock cool and cloudy marched left in front. Col. told us where we are going for the first time. passed through Salem at 9 1/2 oclock good road tolerable good country, quite cool, stoped and rested at 11 1/2 A.M. the road very straight, country tolerable level but covered with shrub oak and brush

1863 Lake Springs
Mar 31st rested at 2 oclock then went on got to camp at 2 1/2 oclock. camped in a hollow in the timber. teams got in at 4 1/2 oclock, got a big mail. I got a letter from Mary, all well
Apr 1st fine cool day boy cleaning up the streets and parade ground, no mail, some of the teams gone to Rolla I wrote a letter to Johny had dress parade to night all well no news.
" 2nd fine day warm and nice all quiet. had drill, and dress parade. had a mail Capt. got his furlough and started for home. borrowed $15.00 for the Capt. of the boys. I did not get any letters
