1863
Apr 3rd fine day. had no drill. cleaned of the parade ground, finished my letter to Mary. no mail. teams got in from Rolla, Capt got back his furlough was not right. Col. Serenaded this evening. all quiet. no news.
" 4th fine nice warm day. had no drill dull this forenoon had a batallion drill this evening, had a hores race in 2nd Wis. had a mail I got none. all quiet and still. no news. I made out a set of Ordanance returns.
" 5th fine nice warm day. had a awfull smoke in camp this morning cleaning up the camp. had Regt inspection at 9 1/2 oclock

Sunday
Apr 5th every thing quite still and looks like Sunday but no meeting of any kind. had dress parade and Petingale was released. had a mail but I did not get any letter. Wm. White [i.e., Private William White] gone to Rolla Edward Beitler [i.e., Private Edward Beidler] got his discharge and gone home. I drawed my stationery for this quarter. no news.
" 6th fine day. drawn up in line of battle at ten oclock and marched about a mile and was reviewed by General Herron [i.e., General Francis J. Herron] at about 1 oclock got back at 2 oclock and the Capt. started for home. we got a mail.
