1863

April 28th  fine showers and warm. things look nice, begin to look like Summer, all quiet in camp, Capt. got back. been busy all day. News came that Marmadukes [i.e., Brigadier General John S. Marmaduke] train is captured, at Pilot Knob. every thing seems favorable to us, good news from Wis., drilled in division drill, boys not got back from Rolla.

Picket Guard

 "  29th  beautiful warm day, wind in the North I have to go on Picket guard all goes of well J. Shipply came in from Rolla at 10 oclock tonight. no news 94th moved their camp got a company Record, fine night all quiet. no countersign

1863  on Picket

Apr 30th  Beautifull fine morning. did not sleep much, but feel tolerable well, went and passed at 7 1/2 oclock for Rolla. met our Regt. going out to review as we where coming in, roads quite dusty. Mustered at about 2 oclock the 2nd Wis. Cavl. came in from a scout. just before latter. no news of importance A. Lester [i.e., Private Alonson Lester] discharged and gone home, all quiet.

May 1st  Lieut Hall [i.e., 1st Lieutenant Albert P. Hall] went to Rolla. the Colonel fixing for a big supper to morrow evening. rained some this afternoon, B. Budworth [i.e., Private Benjamin F. Budworth] got his furlough I sent a Co. record and a certificate to Mary by him all well and quiet.
