1863
May 6th Cloudy cold and windy, quite disagreeable. I am on guard with Lieut Bott. finished my letter to G. Jenkins, very stricked orders given on guard to day. all quiet in camp had Battallion drill this afternoon, good news from the East. all well.
" 7th fine nice day, but rather cool, I came of guard and done nothing in the forenoon, got a letter from Mary. All well, had Batallion drill this afternoon, took a walk this evening and seen the 94th on dress parade got Glorious news from the war at Fredericksburg. all quiet in camp two or three ladies came in to day. got a dance at the Col. this evening.

May 8th Very warm and close day things cowing fine, all quiet in camp, I wrote a piece to Christmas and a small letter to Father, bought a new hat, have $3.00 for it. had a Batallion drill this afternoon, some more women came in camp this evening again, no fresh news. every thing quiet and still.
" 9th fine warm day. had no drill but cleaned up the camp and aired the tents. commensed a letter to Mary, got no mail. no exciting news, all quiet in camp. boys washing up their cloths talked of having a dance to night. pulled down Lieut Jacksons tent.
