March 20th
Beautiful day. puplic speaking in the church on the state of the country, by Col. White [i.e., Col. Robert White, 23rd Virginia Cavalry] and Dr [illeg] Harris. Supped with Mr Cup elegant. Ball at Mt Solan. Some sweet girls. some prettie. some "fat arsted". others are generally ugly as the devil. quite a nice time Staid at Major McCues rode out, in the eve. with Miss McCoy. nice time

March 21st
Still beautiful weather. We are delightifuly situated. pleasent society. plenty of nice girls (no to compare with my Puddy) weather beautiful. abundance to eat for ourselves and our horses
March 26th
Nothing has since the 21t of note. Still at Mt Solan, have been spending most of my time at Mr Van L[illeg]'s. Calmes [i.e., Lt. Col. Fielding H. Calmes, 23rd Virginia Cavalry] and OFerrell [i.e., Lt. Col. Charles T. O'Ferrall, 23rd Virginia Cavalry] both jined the Regt. this morning. OFerl [illeg]. Sunday and
