Sept 20th

I feel pretty well to day I can eat enough for two men to day I spoke with the Major to day for the first time the Adjutant came to me this morning we had quite a chat and I went to the surgeon and had a chat There was 2 prisoners brought in to our Colonels quarters this forenoon they was the horsemen pretty smart looking men they was dressed in citizens cloths they are either spys or something else they was taken by the guards some think that they are not confederates but I believe they are you cannot tell any thing about them they are adepts at it I think the rebels are falling back all of the time and I expect we will follow them in a few days there has several

thousand gone after them the report is or was that Buels [sp. Buell's] army was following up Kerby Smith [sp. Kirby Smith] and Bragg was after Buel but smith is faIling back to form a junction with br Bragg and we are to help Buel our Regts for a reserve and there is a good many more of us here I tell you how many I do not know I herd the Adjutant say that there were 85000 thousand of us so you can see that there is quite a family of us well I guess I will close and send it along good by
